4G backup (aka 4G failover) is an internet connection delivered over a 4G Mobile Broadband service that automatically kicks in if your fixed-line internet connection goes down. It enables business continuity by drastically reducing, and in most cases eliminating, internet downtime.

4G backup works through a 4G SIM card that's placed inside your router or modem router. Your modem can detect when its fixed-lined internet connection has failed. And once it detects that your primary internet is disconnected, it will automatically switch over to the 4G backup service. With 4G backup enabled, your modem will continue to function as a gateway to the internet.

To enable seamless connectivity, we've designed our 4G backup connections to run at 25/5 Mbps. While designed to maintain essential connectivity, a 4G backup connection may not have the speeds you're used to on your fixed-line connection, that support bandwidth-intensive activities. Therefore, when running on a 4G backup connection, we recommend that you prioritise essential business activities.

No. Your modem needs power to stay connected, so 4G backup won't work during a power outage. Unless you have a backup power source like a UPS, battery, or generator. Keep in mind, mobile towers also need to be operational for the connection to work.
